Essen Motor Show 2026 Reinvents Its Classic Car Experience

A Fresh Direction for Europe’s Leading Performance Festival

The Essen Motor Show, one of Europe’s most influential automotive festivals, is preparing a major evolution for 2026. The new direction will bring classic cars, modern classics, and youngtimers into a redesigned experience that reflects the changing interests of enthusiasts. After four decades of hosting classic vehicles, Messe Essen will now take full control of the classic car halls, bringing a unified concept to the entire exhibition.

The event will return from November 28 to December 6, 2026, with a preview day on November 27. Because the classic car scene continues to expand and attract younger audiences, organizers believe the time is right for a contemporary relaunch. As a result, the 2026 edition aims to reinforce its leadership in the European automotive and motorsport landscape.

A New Layout for Youngtimers and Classic Cars

Starting next year, the exhibition will be structured with a clearer and more engaging layout. Hall 1 will become the dedicated space for youngtimers, showcasing cars between 20 and 29 years old. These models, increasingly popular among younger enthusiasts, represent an important wave of automotive culture. Meanwhile, Hall 2 will host classic cars aged 30 years and older. Because this division provides more clarity for visitors and exhibitors, it is expected to increase the appeal of both segments.

Dealers, clubs, and private sellers will be invited to present their vehicles across both halls. The halls will include curated spaces for spare parts, accessories, model cars, literature, car care products, and clothing. Additionally, organizers are preparing a stronger focus on classic motorsports. Former racing drivers will be invited to share stories, creating a more emotional and authentic connection with visitors.

New Awards, Themed Specials, and an Expanded Car Market

The revamped concept introduces awards for outstanding vehicles. Each year, the most beautiful youngtimer and the most valuable classic car will receive dedicated recognition. Because these awards are expected to generate significant media attention, they will help shine a spotlight on remarkable models and collectors.

Special themed exhibitions will also take place in both halls, highlighting key anniversaries and influential automotive milestones. These rotating displays aim to create reasons for visitors to come back year after year. At the same time, the Essen Motor Show will introduce a new car market in Hall 1A. Commercial and private sellers will have access to 146 exhibition spaces, offering a wide selection of vehicles for purchase. With this addition, the show will once again occupy the entire Messe Essen grounds.

Positive Reactions from the Classic Car Community

The industry has responded with enthusiasm. Many leaders describe the Essen Motor Show as more relevant than ever, especially after the challenges of the pandemic. Visitor numbers have been rising, and the event now attracts a broader audience that includes families and younger fans. This growth shows that interest in cars, motorsport heritage, and automotive culture remains strong.

Representatives from the Automobile Club of Germany praised the relaunch, noting that the expanded concept fits the spirit of the times. They highlighted the increased diversity of topics on display, from youngtimers to the classic car market. This variety reinforces the event’s ability to remain dynamic and competitive in an evolving industry.

A Strategic Step Forward for Messe Essen

The German Sports Drivers’ Association also welcomed the new strategy. According to its president, Dr. Karl-Friedrich Ziegahn, the decision to use the entire exhibition center again is a clear commitment to strength and sustainability. The integration of new thematic worlds strengthens the profile of the Essen Motor Show as Europe’s leading performance festival. It ensures that the event remains relevant not only for exhibitors and brands but also for visitors, motorsport fans, and active participants.

Because the trade fair landscape is evolving, initiatives like this help maintain the event’s leadership position. The move toward a more comprehensive layout allows for a greater variety of experiences, which is essential for long-term success.

Registration Opens Soon for Exhibitors

Exhibitors interested in participating in the 2026 edition will be able to register on the Essen Motor Show website starting November 28, 2025. They will benefit from an early bird discount valid until March 31, 2026. Since demand is expected to be high, Messe Essen encourages early registration. With the support of the community and the strength of its new direction, the 2026 edition is set to become one of the most exciting chapters in the show’s long history.
